SEE & EXPERIENCE

Places to put on your list

The Eiffel Tower and the Seine from Passerelle Debilly
The Eiffel Tower and the Seine from Passerelle Debilly

Eiffel Tower & the Seine

The iron structure rewards a look from the Trocadéro gardens and Champ-de-Mars as well as from its viewing platforms. Notice the pillars and the changing views towards the bridges and Seine. If going up, select the level and access option carefully when booking, and leave room to explore the surrounding gardens.

Île de la Cité & Le Marais

Île de la Cité brings together Notre-Dame, riverside views and Sainte-Chapelle’s stained glass, best appreciated from inside. In the Marais, look for mansion courtyards and the arcades of Place des Vosges. These places have separate access arrangements: check each monument and choose the stops that interest you instead of racing through a checklist.

Montmartre

Around Sacré-Cœur and Place du Tertre, the hill retains cobbled lanes, stairways and traces of its artistic past. Smaller streets away from the crowds and glimpses between the rooftops are part of its appeal. Expect slopes, allow yourself to wander, and respect both worshippers and the people who live in these residential streets.

Things to do with family

Musée du Louvre
Musée du Louvre

A discovery game at the Louvre

Choose a small selection of artworks around something the children enjoy: animals, heroes or ancient Egypt. Look for a detail, sketch a silhouette or invent a character’s story. The museum’s family resources help you prepare; check workshop languages and booking arrangements before visiting.

Playtime in the Luxembourg Gardens

Around the central pond, miniature sailing boats turn a garden walk into a game. Play areas and a puppet theatre offer other possibilities. Mix fountain spotting with rests on the garden chairs; check which activities are available, their admission arrangements and the weather before setting out.

TIME TOGETHER

Ideas for couples

Wander through Montmartre’s smaller streets

Leave the busiest streets to notice the façades, stairways and small squares of the hill. Choose a café together after taking in the views near Sacré-Cœur. There are slopes to negotiate, so wear comfortable shoes and choose a route that suits your energy rather than ticking off every lane.

See Paris from the Seine

A sightseeing cruise reveals bridges and major landmarks from the river, offering a different rhythm from walking. Pick a simple sightseeing option that suits you both. Compare the departure pier, commentary language and covered seating before booking, then continue the atmosphere with a stroll along the quays.

The story behind the city

Paris grew around the Seine and the Île de la Cité. A royal capital and later a centre of the French Revolution, much of its present appearance reflects nineteenth-century rebuilding. Covered passages, broad boulevards and former villages such as Montmartre reveal these different layers.

Practical pointers for your stay

Getting around and enjoying the city

Stay near a metro station, group visits by neighbourhood and reserve major landmarks. Bring comfortable shoes. Bakeries, markets and bistros make easy food stops. CDG, Orly and Beauvais involve different transfers; check your exact airport.

Seasons & weather

Spring and early autumn suit walking. Summer brings long evenings but occasional heatwaves. Winter is cooler with shorter days, making museums useful alternatives. Rain is possible throughout the year.
