Places to put on your list

South Beach
South Beach

South Beach & Ocean Drive

Art Deco hotels, pastel colours and geometric shapes line a lively promenade close to the beach. Look for rounded windows, symmetry and distinctive signs, then explore the open spaces of Lummus Park. An architectural tour adds context to the buildings; bring water and sun protection to enjoy the stretches with little shade.

Little Havana

Around Calle Ocho, Cuban cafés, music and local businesses reveal an essential part of Miami’s identity. Street-facing counters invite you to taste a speciality and observe neighbourhood life. Explore with curiosity, ask before photographing residents, and consider a locally guided visit if you want more context about the community and its history.

Wynwood & Design District

Wynwood expresses itself through large murals, galleries and creative spaces. The Design District offers a different perspective, combining contemporary architecture, public art and design-focused shops. They are separate areas: identify the works that interest you and distinguish what can be seen from the street from places with their own admission requirements.

The aquarium at the Frost Museum of Science

Science and aquarium discoveries at Frost Science

The aquarium and science spaces open up conversations about marine life and science through concrete questions. Ask the children what they notice before reading the explanations together. Check the exhibitions and planetarium arrangements to choose a visit that fits their ages and interests without trying to include every experience.

Beach and nature at Crandon Park

On Key Biscayne, Crandon Park combines a beach with natural environments including dunes and the Bear Cut area. Choose between sand play and observing nature together. Check the nature centre’s current activities; if swimming is part of your visit, follow the beach flags and guidance displayed on site.

Discover Ocean Drive’s Art Deco together

Look at the pastel façades, geometric lines and signs that give Ocean Drive its character. A walk between the architecture and the seafront offers changing perspectives. For more context, explore the historic district’s guided walks, then choose a café or terrace that suits your tastes and budget.

The story behind the city

The region’s Indigenous history long predates the modern city, incorporated in 1896. Railways, seaside development and migration transformed Miami. Little Havana reflects Cuban influence, while Miami Beach’s façades recall the tourism boom of the 1930s.

Practical pointers for your stay

Getting around and enjoying the city

Miami Beach is separate from the mainland: choose accommodation around your priorities. Public transport may involve transfers; a car can be more useful for excursions than a beach day. Carry water and sun protection and check parking costs.

Seasons & weather

The drier, generally milder period from winter into spring is pleasant for sightseeing. Summers are hot, humid and stormy. During hurricane season, check forecasts and official alerts before boat trips or park excursions.
